Macro Magnetic Holes Caused by Ripples in Heliospheric Current Sheet from Coordinated Imaging and Parker Solar Probe Observations

چکیده
Macro magnetic holes (MMHs), which are significant field decreases in the solar wind lasting tens of minutes, were found during first four orbits Parker Solar Probe (PSP). We performed a detailed analysis 2020 January 30 event and possible cause MMH using coordinated remote sensing observations from STEREO A PSP situ measurements. The results indicate that an represents brief encounter with rippled heliospheric current sheet (HCS). Out data PSP, we identified 17 MMHs carried out statistical analysis. Basic characteristics include (1) usually last minutes; (2) strength inside events is much lower than ambient wind; (3) enhanced plasma density, radial velocity, β MMHs; (4) has same polarity before after MMH. Based on potential field-source surface magnetohydrodynamics models, for each roughly estimate size limit vertical (i.e., separation distance between HCS), 2 R⊙ 10 average, respectively. These suggest frequent phenomenon may shed light dynamics HCS origins evolutions structures heliosphere.

The heliospheric magnetic field at solar minimum: Ulysses observations from pole to pole
The fast transit of the Ulysses spacecraft from the south polar regions of the heliosphere to the north polar regions has allowed us to obtain a unique perspective on the configuration and properties of the heliospheric magnetic field at a time of solar minimum activity. We compare the magnetic field in the northern and southern hemispheres and find no evidence of asymmetry in the radial compon...
متن کاملHeliospheric current sheet inclinations at Venus and Earth
We investigate the inclinations of heliospheric current sheet at two sites in interplanetary space, which are generated from the same solar source. From the data of solar wind magnetic ®elds observed at Venus (0.72 AU) and Earth (1 AU) during December 1978±May 1982 including the solar maximum of 1981, 54 pairs of candidate sector boundary crossings are picked out, of which 16 pairs are identi®e...
متن کاملGalactic Cosmic Ray Modulation near the Heliospheric Current Sheet
Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) are modulated by the heliospheric magnetic field (HMF) both over decadal time scales (due to long-term, global HMF variations), and over time scales of a few hours (associated with solar wind structures such as coronal mass ejections or the heliospheric current sheet, HCS). Due to the close association between the HCS, the streamer belt, and the band of slow solar wi...
متن کاملHeliosheath Magnetic Field and Plasma Observed by Voyager2 during 2012 in the Rising Phase of Solar Cycle 24
We discuss magnetic field and plasma observations of the heliosheath made by Voyager 2 (V2) during 2012, when V2 was observing the effects of increasing solar activity following the solar minimum in 2009. The average magnetic field strength B was 0.14 nT and B reached 0.29 nT on day 249. V2 was in a unipolar region in which the magnetic polarity was directed away from the Sun along the Parker s...
